Here is what's going on in April

1)  A-boards
We are getting 12 A-boards announcing Third Thursday, supposedly by April 14.  Thank you to the boosters for getting those from the city. 6 of the boards will be ready prior to our first event.

2)  Fliers
We are printing up 3000 fliers which Ollie of Hollywood Reruns is generously offering to deliver to the neighborhoods at no cost starting Wednesday.
Those are the same fliers we sent to you, if you want to hand them out in your business.

3)  Event Guide/Trivia Map
The final version is done!  The Event Guide is on one side and the Trivia Map goes on the other.  Feel free to print some out for your customers and hand them out before April 19.

4)  Ads
The Hollywood Boosters paid for an ad in the Grantonian (Grant High School Paper), and TT businesses have given money for us to run an ad in the Hollywood Star.  The Oregonian is also running an ad in A&E; if anyone is interested in that, contact Rich Courtney at the Oregonian.

5)  Music
We have eight places with musicians lined up to play on Third Thursday, the most ever for this event!  Should be great!

MERCHANT PARTICIPATION

Here is your chance to join in a fun event to promote business in the Hollywood District.  We are getting together to put on "Hollywood at Night," a special shopping/music/wine/art/fun evening every third Thursday of the month from 6:00 to 9:00 PM.  We are promoting the event with posters, banners, ads, press releases and fliers, so this will be a great opportunity for you and your business to be part of the energy and excitement.

How can you participate?  Here are some things other Hollywood businesses are doing:

  • Having a local musician play at the business (find a local musician who will play for free for the exposure)
  • Offering special discounts and/or promotions (ie: lemontree is offering a discount for shoppers)
  • Wine tasting, cheese tasting, art show
  • Special events (ie: Quirks of Art & Furniture is holding a two-minute art contest)
  • Special tours of the business (make it fun!) with refreshments (check with the county health department first... if you are not a food establishment, you can only serve pre-packaged foods or small sample sizes)

So, what do you now?

1)     Let us know if you want to join in (tell the person who brought you this info or email Kerry or Todd at mail@quirks-of-art.com or call them at 503-282-4429).

2)     Look for a musician to serenade your business that night.

3)     Think up some fun stuff to keep visitors entertained.

4)     Put the poster in your window and put out fliers for customers.

5)     Consider the banner ad in the Oregonian; the more businesses that advertise together, the bigger this event will look!

Here's our new plan to help bring people in for Third Thursday:

We are going to print out the Event Guides and the Trivia Maps early.  That way we can give them out to our customers early, so they will be informed, aware and ready to participate.

What this means for you:

1)  If you are on the current Event Guide and the current Trivia Map, I am going to take that same info and put in the November guide and map.  I will remove any specific info related to trunk shows, etc, and keep it general, ie: trivia, treats, music.

2)  If you want the info changed, let me know ASAP.

3)  If you are not in the guide or on the map, and you want to join in, let me know by Monday, October 23.

We can always update the guide and map as the month continues.
